Creating (and Joining) Blogging Networks

Published by bizofwords at 11:20 am under Blogging Edit This

Yesterday I suggested the importance of drawing blog traffic by participating in appropriate blog carnivals (to yesterday’s commenter, there are plenty of great carnivals out there, but it’s important to think about what your goals are for your blog; I had a lot of luck submitting a post on talking with teens about sex and pregnancy to a modern family blog carnival, for example, in part because there was so much diversity in the posts). After writing that piece, I went to visit a few blogs that I’ve read in the past - often looking for ideas about what other bloggers are writing about - and one of them talked about creating a topical blog group.

This sort of blogging network serves a number of interesting purposes:

  • It helps bloggers come together and to support one another
  • It allows bloggers to share tips - including monetizing blogs, choosing a great theme and just basics about staying motivated
  • It encourages making connections with other bloggers and can lead to increased incoming links from related sites

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll let you know whether or not I’m seeing results or benefits, but in the meantime, here’s my thought. Blogging can be a very lonely pursuit and it can be tough to stick it out. I think that it’s important to get motivated - especially when you blog on an issue that’s important to you - and to keep coming back to the keyboard day after day ; if talking with others who are passionate about the same subject is the thing that reminds you of why you started, then by all means do it and if you cannot find a network of other bloggers, then at least consider starting a network of your own.
